Spring Refresh

With Spring Break fast approaching some of us may have more time at home. What a great time to catch up on the following homeowner tasks we’ve avoided all winter.

Here are our top Essential Spring maintenance tips for homeowners!

1. Gutters & Downspouts - Now is the time to clean your gutters and downspouts. After months of winter and recent rain there’s no doubt they’ll need a good cleaning. While you’re cleaning make sure your downspout is still redirecting water AWAY from the house to avoid water damage.

2. Wash Exterior Windows  - We love seeing the sun out more often but what we don’t love is how the sunshine highlights our dirt windows! It’s time to wash those exterior windows. Remember for windows that are not easily accessible, hire a professional.

3. Smoke Alarms - Test and if needed replace your smoke alarms. This is something that often goes unnoticed but is of the utmost importance when it comes to the safety of your home. Remember to replace the batteries in your smoke detector every 6 months if they are not wired in.

4. Clean out the Dryer Vent - Cleaning out your dryer by removing dirt, lint and other debris will enhance the dryer’s efficiency. Failing to clean out your dryer vent can create a fire hazard! Imagine lint builds up in the ducts of your home and the hot air traveling through those ducts ignites the lint. Even worse if you hadn’t replaced those batteries in your smoke alarm you could have a house fire on your hands - what a nightmare!

5. Check Attic - It’s that time of year to check out your attic. What are you checking for? Leaks, mold and moisture intrusion, things that if left undetected can become a major issue down the line.

Remember keeping up with home maintenance is an important part of being a homeowner and Spring is a great time to get these jobs done!
